“Symbiosis Skills University to create skilled manpower in order to fuel $5 trillion economic dream of India”

Symbiosis Skills and Open University (SSOU) organized a one-day National Conference in collaboration with Logistics Skill Council (LSC) of India on Opportunities in Logistics, Transportation and MSME Sector on 15th November 2019 at University in Kiwale. Shri Nitin Ji Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways of India, MSME, Government of India inaugurated the conference. Padma Bhushan Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, Chancellor of the university presided over the function.

“India needs skilled manpower in large numbers in the logistics, transport and MSME. To achieve the target of $5 trillion economy set up by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Logistics, Transport and MSME have become extremely important today,” he said while delivering the inaugural address. “Technology is disrupting every industry including MSME and it is time that MSME adapt to the changes to become more efficient.” He also emphasized the need for skill based education in India and how it can fuel the economic development. He lauded the efforts taken by Symbiosis Skills University in launching many useful skill based degree programs for students.

Dr S B Mujumdar, Chancellor, Symbiosis Skills and Open University, highlighted the need for creating an alternate system of education that focuses on skill development. He said that skill based education is the need of the hour to reap the benefits of demographic dividend.  

Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro-Chancellor of the university informed that Symbiosis Skills and Open University is Maharashtra’s 1st skill development university and we have 70% focus on learning by doing. In order to give hands-on practical training to our students we have created skill centers and learning factories which are not seen on any university campus in India. Dr Swati also added that it is important to have such conferences with industry speakers in order to understand the jobs available in the market. 

Shri Nitin Ji Gadkari also inaugurated the J P Research Centre of Excellence for road safety and accident research. This unique centre will focusing on reducing fatalities in road accidents. 

 

The conference was attended by more than hundred industry champions and delegates. The objective of the conference was to deliberate upon and understand the changing landscape of these sectors and trends. Delegates deliberated on various opportunities in sectors like logistics, ports management, transportation, technology and the jobs available in these sectors.
