Speaking on the occasion, Shri Devendraji Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra said, “Skill development is the need of the hour. The government of India is leaving no stone unturned to equip the youth with skills. We have a rich demographic dividend and we should convert it into our resource through skilling which will, in turn, enhance the global economy. Countries who have taken an advantage of demographic dividend has leaped forward. Now, it is the turn of India. Our country should take advantage. In fact, our country has taken cognizance and aspirations are being addressed which has led to social and economic development. We need more thinkers, innovators, doers who can put ideas into practice. We need more flexibility and know the demand of the market so that we can provide it with skilled youth and human resource for our country as well as for international market. SSOU has set an example. It is the convergence where everything is taken care of where academicians and industry are forging an alliance.”
Padma Bhushan Dr. Mujumdar, President, and Founder, Symbiosis said, “Skill development is an important driver for the industrial and economic growth of India. To crystallize our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Skill India and Make in India vision, a large pool of skilled workforce has to be created quickly. India is the youngest country in the world and in order to reap the advantages of the demographic dividend, we must provide our youth with skills and encourage them to enter the world of work. It has been observed that students hesitate to join vocational education because of lack of vertical mobility and social acceptability. On the other hand, the industry does not have skilled manpower and there is large-scale unemployment amongst the educated youth. To bridge the gap, Symbiosis Skills & Open University was established.”
Elaborating about SSOU, Dr. Swati Mujumdar said, “All programs offered by this University have been mapped with the job roles in the industry and Industry has helped to develop the curriculum. The focus is on providing hands-on training to the students with 70% practical & only 30% theory component. The students will be exposed to latest cutting-edge technologies through specialized skill training labs & Centres of Excellence set up with industry input on the University campus. Flexible learning pathways, with credit banking & transfer, multi-entry & exit, recognition of prior learning are some of the unique features which set this University apart from a Conventional University. In addition, SSOU will use innovative technology solutions to deliver education to students located in remote corners.”
