BBA in Ports & Terminal Management

The Program gives students a thorough knowledge and understanding of Port and Terminal Management. It also develops relevant communication skills related to the sector. BBA in Ports & Terminal Management is three year program focused on the preparing students for Managerial roles in this sector.

The Program will make the student understand the role of ports in international trade and transport and how ports can benefit or detract from the economic development of countries and their sea-borne trade, understand the effect of globalisation on port choice and how changes in logistics and distribution patterns influence the development or decline of ports, understand the geographic reasons for port location and the extent to which this may depend on the nature of their hinterland and natural resources. The different types of ports and access to ports (natural, manmade, river, estuary) and the diversity of specialist port operations, the enhanced role of ports in a through transport context – hub ports, feeder/transhipment ports, intermodal interfaces will also be covered. The curriculum will also discuss the role of national, regional local government in port provision, the different forms of the ownership structure of ports and of port services; public/private, landlord only, full or part service provider, terminal facilities within ports and the use of Free Port/Free Trade Zones as an economics tool.

The students will be trained on latest soft wares and technologies in vogue in the Ports & Terminal Management Sector. SAP Module for Logistics, Supply Chain and Ports Management will form an integral part of the student’s training.

Three Years

Passed XII (10+2) or equivalent course in any discipline from any recognised Board/Council/University with minimum 50% marks for general (open) category and 45% marks for students of reserved category.

While deciding the eligibility of the Candidates following procedure shall be adopted -
(a) The percentage of marks shall be calculated by rounding off to nearest integer. i.e. if the percentage of marks comes out to be 44.50% to 44.99% then it shall be rounded to 45% and if the percentage of marks comes out to be 44.01% to 44.49% shall be rounded to 44% for deciding the eligibility.

(b) In case the maximum marks in an individual subject is other than 100, the marks will be converted out of 100 for individual subject without rounding, If sum of the converted marks of individual subjects without rounding off works out to be a figure with fraction then fraction up to two decimal places shall only be considered for calculation of percentage of marks considering maximum marks as 300 and, If the percentage comes in fraction, then rounding off shall be done as above to decide the eligibility.

A candidate who has completed XII (10+2) or equivalent examination from any Foreign Board must obtain an equivalent certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). All foreign qualifications need to be verified from Association of Indian Universities (AIU) by the candidate before seeking provisional admission to any program of Symbiosis Skills & Open University (SSOU). In order to promote international understanding between Indian and Foreign students, SSOU has reserved 5% seats for NRIs/International students in every division.

Note 1 - Academic Fees includes Tuition fees, Regular exam fees, Library books & e-journals, Laboratory fees , these fees are refundable according to UGC policy.
Medical Fees of Rs. 5500/- for basic medical facilities on campus are Non-Refundable.

Note 2 -

  • Hostel & Mess Fees include Hostel Stay and Mess/Dining charges.
  • Laundry services shall be available for a separate fee (to be announced later). Students who wish to avail laundry facility shall have to pay requisite fees in advance for the whole year along with hostel fees. Interested students should confirm to University office at the time of admission.
  • Laundry fees are non refundable.

Note 3 -

  • Academic fees shall be increased up to 15% each year as per the University policies during the period of the program at the discretion of the Management.
  • Revised fees will be applicable to new and existing students.

Other Notes-

  • Education loan facility available from nationalised banks.
  • Pay per use bus service for city trip for hostel students @ Rs. 100/- per trip (to & fro).

Discretionary Quota
Few Seats are reserved as Discretionary Quota Seats. Only students with high academic record are considered for Discretionary Quota Seats. The fees for Discretionary Quota Seats will be double the Academic fees for Indian Students to be paid to the University.
