B.Tech in Automobile Engineering qualifies you to work in a branch of engineering which deals with the study of how to design, manufacture and operate all kinds of moving vehicles such as buses, trucks, cars, two-wheelers, three wheelers, earth-movers and tractors and also their respective engineering subsystems.
First 2 years build a strong foundation of mathematics, material science, applied physics, engineering drawing, computer science, applied mechanics, basics of electronics, i.e. engines, manufacturing.
After 2 years there is one semester of Industrial Training and by the end of the 4th semester the student has already firmed up his area of pursuit. 5th semester industrial training can be organized in the area in which the student wants to specialize.
First 4 semesters also include laboratory modules. Depending on the stream of specialization appropriate lab classes are planned. Students also have an access to the workshop where the automobile vehicles and components including engine and its parts are displayed, thereby helping the student to get familiarized with the vehicles and components, their functions, and location in the automobile assembly.
Semesters 6 & 7 include specialized subjects depending on the stream being pursued. Students are also given a flavour of quality engineering, auto product development, manufacturing processes which have become key factors in successful execution of products in the industrial environment. Syllabus includes subjects of contemporary and emerging technologies, like electric drive and controls, fuel cells. Engineering tools like Matlab and Simulink are a part of the curriculum. Overall the course is structured in a way to give a well-rounded knowledge and practical training to the student on which he can build further and become a valuable contributor in the professional world.
The program will give students a broad exposure in the design, development and testing of automobiles. Furthermore, the program trains them to meet the technological challenges and diverse needs of the industry and society in various areas of automobile engineering and equips them to excel in a truly competitive industry. SSOU is first –of- its kind in India for crafting skill based engineers. The curriculum has been designed in consultation with the industry to ensure that the students would gain the knowledge on skill as a well as theory. Each course within the program is modular and credit based. Learning outcomes and skill competency levels been clearly defined in each course curriculum.
The state of art training systems and education equipment are being installed from Germany. LUCAS-NUELLE, pioneer for the development, manufacture of high quality training and education equipment for last 40 years, has extended their boundary for installing these training equipment into the University for imparting the skill to the aspirant. These specially designed training equipment for enhancing skill are being mapped meticulously with theory.
The Electricals and Electronics lab, Mechatronics Lab, Control Engineering Lab, Pneumatics and Hydraulic Lab, Vehicle Electronics Lab, DSP and Microprocessor lab are added recently. The workshop is equipped with basic fitting-welding-wood working equipment, conventional lathe, CNC lathe, CNC milling for skilling the beginners. In future there are a provision for integrating the workshop with Rapid Prototyping Machine, 3D printing, Robotics etc.
While deciding the eligibility of the Candidates following procedure shall be adopted -
(a) The percentage of marks shall be calculated by rounding off to nearest integer. i.e. if the percentage of marks comes out to be 44.50% to 44.99% then it shall be rounded to 45% and if the percentage of marks comes out to be 44.01% to 44.49% shall be rounded to 44% for deciding the eligibility.
(b) In case the maximum marks in an individual subject is other than 100, the marks will be converted out of 100 for individual subject without rounding, If sum of the converted marks of individual subjects without rounding off works out to be a figure with fraction then fraction up to two decimal places shall only be considered for calculation of percentage of marks considering maximum marks as 300 and, If the percentage comes in fraction, then rounding off shall be done as above to decide the eligibility.
NRI / International Students – A candidate who has completed XII (10+2) or equivalent examination from any Foreign Board must obtain an equivalent certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). All foreign qualifications need to be verified from Association of Indian Universities (AIU) by the candidate before seeking provisional admission to any programme of Symbiosis Skills & Open University.
In order to promote International understanding between Indian and Foreign students, SSOU has reserved 5% seats for NRIs/International students in every division.
