World is moving rapidly into Digital Era. The advent of e-commerce, IoT has touched millions of lives world over. These developments and rapid progress is possible due to the powerful technology of internet. Any technology not used properly can cause problems to the individual and society at large. Internet is no different.
Criminal minds exist everywhere and use every opportunity to for their personal gains, either in the form of money or shear pleasure. This gives rise to frauds in the financial systems like credit cards, internet banking or social media usage. It manifests in the form of identity thefts or in simple word unethical hacking or fishing attacks on networks to disrupt normal business. The intensity and frequency of such malicious events has gone up so much that affected people, businesses, institutions lose billions of dollars annually.
In 2015, the British insurance company Lloyd’s estimated that cyber attacks cost businesses as much as $400 billion a year, which includes direct damage plus post-attack disruption to the normal course of business. Some vendor and media forecasts over the past year put the cybercrime figure as high as $500 billion and more.
Three years ago, the “The Wall Street Journal” estimated that the cost of cyber crime in the U.S. was approximately $100 billion. The estimate disputed other reports which pegged the numbers by as much as ten times higher.
The technology is new and the ways of conducting crimes are also new. It is a no brainer that to tackle such crimes from detection, prevention and curation also needs new methods, processes, technologies and tools.
The course design aims at building expertise within the students so that they can effectively handle such situations and help industry save billions of dollars.
This program is ideal for students desirous of making global careers in cyber security & forensics.
